The building, as designed by Dave Spicer, is traditional Berber, arranged around a courtyard. There is just under an acre of land which can be a permaculture garden demonstration, benefiting the school.
Well/Borehole
The center will need clean water immediately, and it will not be good to put more strain on the existing supply, which is insufficient for the population anyway. Though this will be remedied by the project, it will be necessary to provide a well for ourselves and for the surrounding villages.
School for local children
Many local children, from around Igourdane and Ait Larbi, have to walk up to 8km each way to school. The community needs a school and out building will be designed to fulfill that. It will be a private school, run by the community with a state-appointed teacher.
Permaculture Centre (with PRI)
Two large accommodation rooms are incorporated into the design. Out of school time, the school rooms will also be available. PDC courses can be run here, both for Moroccans and international students. It will also act as accommodation for staff, workers, visitors.
Pilot Permaculture Project
Ikhef Nissiki is located near the top of the valley, which is where the restoration will start from, so it can be a base for this project as well.
Internet Access Point
All our projects, as well as the local community and the school, will benefit greatly from having internet access on site. This can be provided via a wireless link to Al Garage, some 7 km away, line of sight.
